Holiday Shopping Tips

I absolutely love this time of the year! I love decorating, visiting friends and family and even shopping. What I can't stand is the holiday rush, long lines and those rude people fighting over parking spaces. Don’t leave out those that are willing to knock you down trying to get to that last Star Wars toy. So this year I am making my list and checking it twice. No need to get frantic and buy up the whole mall on December 23rd. I am hitting the stores earlier hoping to avoid the madness. Here is the Sporty Momma’s guide to Holiday Shopping! Happy Holidays!

Tips:

1. Make a list and stick to it!

2. Shop early to avoid overspending the day before Christmas.

3. Arrive to the store early enough to get a parking spot close to the entrance (Safety first)

4. Leave the kiddos at home. (Every year I say that I am not taking them and I always have to make a last minute trip to buy something and they just drive me crazy)

5. Have the bottle of wine ready! (No matter how much you plan ahead, wine is always good!)

Sharonda

Change

As a mother we all go through changes in life. There is the pre-pregnancy, during, post-pregnancy and then raising the kids. It is challenging at times but I must admit it helps when you surround yourself with positive people that will support and encourage you along the way. The past 10 days I have been going through a transformation. It hasn't been an easy one but in the end I hope that it will help me help other moms like you. Sometimes during the pain and disappointment we question God why me? I have learned oh to many times that his reply is always why not you? It is through these tough times that we find our strength and purpose. I can't wait to share the lessons learned and reveal what is coming next for Sporty Mommas!

The Little Things

After the bowling event we wanted to do something special that would put a smile on a breast cancer survivor's face. This morning I had the opportunity to shower a mom of 2 who is currently battling breast cancer for the second time with a few gifts. I met her through a mutual friend and after hearing her story it made me realize how blessed I am. Her strength and faith in God keeps her pressing on. When I asked her last week what would be a treat for her she replied, "A Pink Dress to where to church!" It's the little things! You might not be able to help everyone, but everyone can help someone. Happy Friday!

How You Can Help!

A few days ago I had the pleasure to sit down and talk with breast cancer survivor Sandy Muller. I met her through a friend while I was looking for a foundation to donate the proceeds of this year's bowling bash. It is one thing to talk to someone on the phone but to sit down in person and listen to her story was so inspirational. She is a phenomenal wife, mother and now grandmother. You never know what people go through until you listen to their story. After talking with her for a little over an hour I walked away even more charged and pumped up to serve women in need. As moms, wives, daughters and friends we all go through a lot but it is during those tough times that we are stretched to our true potential. Sandy's battle with breast cancer led her to creating a foundation that services women who are going through treatment. There are so many women uninsured or left with little to no funds after being diagnosed. The Sandy Muller Foundation provides funds to women who qualify for assistance. They help with bill payments, medical expenses, groceries, child care, etc. If you or someone you know may need assistance visit sandybmullerbreastcancerfoundation.org. You can also make a donation online.

The older I get the more I come in contact with women battling breast cancer. Do you want to help out but not sure of what to do? Here are a few tips that can help you help someone going through treatment.

1. Offer a ride to treatment.

2. Prepare or purchase food for a few days. (This helps especially when kids are at home)

3. Make a care package with goodies like lotion, soap, toiletries, and a good book.

4. Gift cards always come in hand.

5. Let them know that you care and are there for them. A simple handwritten note can put a smile on anyones face.
