The Talk Tuesday: #PottyTraining

You know the saying, "Every child is different"? It is so true. I have been pulling my hair out over how different my youngest child is compared to the other two. I mean I don't really compare them. It's just that what worked for them, does not work for her. Her theme song is definitely "I'm different, yeah I'm different"! I love her strength and determination but now it is two weeks before school starts and girlfriend needs to be potty trained! Did you know that 40% of kids aren't potty trained by age 3? I didn't, so I don't feel bad. I have tried the reward system using stickers or candy every time she pees. (She likes the stickers better than the candy) We have made a big celebration doing the potty dance and cheering for her. It worked for one day. So what strategies helped you potty train your toddler?

  1. I think I lucked up with my son, because most generally say that girls are easier but by 2 1/2 he grasped the concept and has been great and without an accident ever since!! What I think worked for him was having him to clean his mess up himself. My son Manava had a terrible habit of just going on the floor and not going to the potty in the same room so after about a week of this, on his next accident on the floor I had him help me scrub the carpet and trash everything, then get in the bath and wash is shorts, rinse them out and hang them. After that first time, it happened twice more and then never again because now he went to the toilet! Kids are smarter than we think sometimes and I truly believe he was tired of cleaning up a mess he did not really have to HAVE to clean. :)
